Going into the first round of the Big East Conference Tournament, hardly anyone expected 11th-seeded DePaul basketball to win a game, but on Wednesday night, the Blue Demons defeated the Providence Friars 70-62 to move on to the quarterfinals. In the regular season, DePaul was swept by the Friars, though one game went to double overtime to be decided. On Wednesday night, thanks to standout performances from DePaul’s top shooters Javon Freeman-Liberty and Charlie Moore as well as one of the Demons’ best defensive nights of the year, they put on a show to upset the sixth-seeded Friars and to win their opening round game for the second straight year. While its final regular season game got off to a rough start, Nevada basketball managed to upset the Colorado State Rams with an electric second half performance. This win was major for coach Steve Alford and his players, effectively placing them in a higher seed for the Mountain West Tournament starting on Wednesday, March 10. Nevada basketball’s first half against Colorado State was a little lackluster, shooting 39.3% on field goals, 31.3% on 3-pointers and 11 turnovers. The Rams outplayed the Wolf Pack at almost every turn with tricky passes and backdoor cuts on offense and read Nevada’s offense very well, forcing errors and turnovers.
