This weekend, Oklahoma football is heading back down south once again this time to take on the TCU Horned Frogs in Fort Worth.
This weekend’s game against TCU is a pivotal moment for the Oklahoma football program in multiple ways. Coming into the game 2-2, the Sooners need to win on the sheer fact that without a win this year the Sooners will once again be sitting on a losing record for the second time this season.
The biggest problem for the Sooners this weekend? TCU is the only other football program to take down Texas this year. Not only did TCU hand Texas its only other loss of the season so far, but it was able to do it in regulation time.
Beating the Longhorns 33-31, the Horned Frogs win margin was just a slim as the Sooners’ was. This doesn’t necessarily indicate Oklahoma and TCU will be the perfect matchup for one another. However, it does foreshadow that the game in Amon G. Carter stadium should be a close one.
This week’s game is important for the Sooners on both sides of the ball. But, this week is incredibly important for Sooner starting quarterback Spencer Rattler. If you need a refresher, last game head coach Lincoln Riley made the decision to pull Rattler in the second quarter after a few bad plays sending the message to him as well as the rest of his team that anyone is replaceable.
In a press conference earlier this week when asked about Rattler and back up quarterback Tanner Mordecai taking over for a quarter, Riley made it clear though Mordecai went in for Rattler during the game does not mean he is replacing him for good. However, Riley also alluded to the fact that though Rattler isn’t being replaced for good, he is always willing to put in Mordecai if it is in benefit for the team as a whole.
Rattler needs to use this week’s game as a weapon to prove to his teammates, coaches and Sooner nation that he is still the same highly anticipated QB1 that we were all expecting to see on the field this season.
The Sooners will kick off in Fort Worth at Amon G. Carter Stadium at noon ET this Saturday.
