Will Duke football win a game this season? That is the question fans have on their minds. The Blue Devils are (0-4) and will be matching up against Syracuse (1-2) this weekend.
Turnovers
Duke has been all over the place this year whether it’s turning over the ball or benching Chase Brice toward the end of the Virginia game. Despite showing some improvement, it is still hard to be optimistic.
Duke has 15 turnovers so far this season, and it will need to cut that down immediately. Duke needs to score more touchdowns than it has turnovers if it is going to save this season. The Blue Devils showed improvement by winning the turnover battle against Virginia Tech this past weekend. Now let’s see if the Blue Devils can do it on a consistent basis.
Team outlook
Brice needs to step up and show why Duke chose him to be the starter this season. His performance last week showed he started to become more confident and not force anything, which is something he struggled with a lot in the games against Virginia and Virginia Tech.
The defense has been the backbone for the Blue Devils this season. It would help Duke’s offense get back on the field by forcing turnovers and stopping opponents offense with sacks. The Duke’s defense has forced eight turnovers and recorded 12 sacks so far. This defense will have to keep applying pressure.
Duke nearly pulled off the upset against Virginia Tech, and it can give the Blue Devils something to build on this Saturday.
Will Duke win?
Duke has a tremendous opportunity to win this weekend against Syracuse and is favored to win this weekend. Duke must come out swinging right away on the offensive side of the ball. Its offense has struggled this season but showed promise last week. It’s all going to start with Brice at the quarterback position.
Duke should win this weekend especially if it plays like it did last week against Virginia Tech. The Hokies are a better team than Syracuse, and Duke still had an opportunity at the end to pull out the win.
New overall record prediction
Before the season started, my season prediction was Duke would finish with only four losses and have a winning record. I need to make a new prediction now that Duke has already lost four games this year. For the rest of the season I see Duke football finishing by winning four of its remaining seven games.
Still not optimistic this will happen based off its level of play this year, but who knows? College football can be so unpredictable, and anything can happen any given week.
