Update: Avante Dickerson committed to the Oregon Ducks on Wednesday morning.
A significant number of college football recruits for the class of 2021 signed their national letters of intent in the Early Signing Period in December, but there are plenty of talented prospects announcing their decision on National Signing Day including cornerback Avante Dickerson. Players in the 2021 class can sign on National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 3 and can do so anytime before the Aug. 1 deadline.
Let’s get to know a little more about Dickerson and where he might end up. He is expected to make his decision on Wednesday at 9:10 a.m. ET live on CBS Sports HQ.
Avante Dickerson Recruiting bio
Avante Dickerson is a four-star cornerback according to the 247Sports Composite player rankings and attends Westside High School in Omaha, Nebraska. He is ranked 122nd nationally in the composite and is the eighth-highest ranked cornerback and No. 1 prospect from the state of Nebraska.
Dickerson committed to Minnesota in April 2020 but didn’t sign during the Early Signing Period and decommitted from the program 10 days before National Signing Day, citing a “change of heart.” He stands at 6 feet tall and 170 pounds.
I’d like to thank Coach Fleck and the entire University of Minnesota staff for the support throughout this process. However, I’ve had a change of heart and I am de-committing from Minnesota.
I will be announcing my decision on signing day on Feb. 3rd.— AD #28 (@_dickerson1) January 24, 2021
Offer list
Avonte Dickerson has reported scholarship offers from some of the biggest brands in the sport, and the full FBS offer list according to 247Sports includes Akron, Arkansas, Baylor, Boston College, Duke, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, LSU, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Rutgers, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, USC and Virginia.
Highlights
Where’s he headed?
Avante Dickerson is expected to head to head out West to be the newest member of the Oregon Ducks recruiting class as that’s where 247Sports and Rivals are predicting he will commit to on Wednesday. This is already a fairly significant blow to Minnesota, who had him committed for several months, and Nebraska being unable to land the No. 1 player in the state would be disappointing for Scott Frost, who needs any type of good news right now.
For Mario Cristobal and the Ducks, this would be big. The class of 2021 already ranks sixth nationally and No. 1 in the Pac-12. Oregon signed a pair of corners during the Early Signing Period with four-star Jaylin Davies and three-star Darrin Barkins.
