Bracketology update: March 4, 2021

Bracketology will be coming more often as we are less than two weeks out from Selection Sunday. Illinois showed us all on Tuesday why it deserves a No. 1 seed. That was a total beat down of Michigan. The Wolverines’ spot as the No. 2 overall team was short-lived. Baylor’s back. That was a fun game between the Bears and West Virginia.

Boise State answered being swept to San Diego State by losing to Fresno State. Multi-bid Mountain West is in some danger. Horizon top-seed Cleveland State held on in triple OT. Xavier lost to Georgetown, which pushed the Musketeers back again. Michigan State is here and Indiana is pretty dead. Georgia Tech won probably the most important game of its season by beating Duke.

The Big 12 never disappoints. Anytime one of the top-seven teams play each other, it’s going to be a thriller. All seven are projected to be nothing worse than a six seed. North Carolina messed itself up again, while Syracuse rattled off two in a row to get right back onto the bubble. The A-10 is doing no favors for the top teams. St. Bonaventure lost a bad one to Dayton, and Richmond lost its worst game in probably ten years to St. Joe’s. Rutgers is now below Maryland thanks to losing to Nebraska on the road.

The bubble was impacted on Wednesday. Seton Hall lost another. The Pirates look so good at times, but they are struggling down the stretch. UConn was on the benefiting end of this game. Maryland snapped its winning streak and lost a bad one to Northwestern. Luckily all the teams around the Terps have similar losses on their resumes already. Oregon is in control of the Pac-12 regular season. Missouri turned things around with a very nice win against Florida.

Villanova clinches another Big East title, but Collin Gillespie went down with a really bad knee injury, and Jay Wright confirmed it was serious after the game. Terrible blow for the Wildcats.

We will start handing out bids to the NCAA Tournament this weekend. There might be a bracket out before then. But I’m not sure yet.

As always, check us out on the Bracket Matrix.
