Meet Duke football writer Jesus Mata

About Me

Hello Duke fans, my name is Jesus Mata. I was born in El Paso, Texas but now live in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. I’m a senior at the University of New Mexico. My major is journalism and my minor in professional writing. Writing for Deceptive Speed presents a great opportunity for me to get experience and do what I love, write about sports. I grew up in Texas, so football has always been a part of my life.

When I was younger, I’ve always found myself wanting to commentate on games like the broadcasters I heard at the time were doing. I played football in high school as well. I played linebacker at Rio Rancho High School. I knew I wanted to write about sports since I was in high school and I’m very excited to write about Duke this football season. My main dream with my career is to work for NFL Network and just be a writer there and be on a show with co-hosts. Something like Good Morning Football, I think the work they do over there is great.

Duke Football

Deceptive Speed will be the place you can find me talking about Duke football every week. This week look out for my season preview for Duke, and what I think they need to do, to pull off the upset against Notre Dame this weekend. I know Duke is more known for basketball, but I plan on bringing you great articles about your football team this season. I’m am very excited to start my journey here and I’m happy to have you all following along with me.

I chose Duke because I’ve been a big fan of their college sports program for a while now. I remember the game I first saw them live. They had come down to El Paso, Texas to play in The Sun Bowl against Miami. That is when I first became a fan of Duke and the ACC.

I am very excited to be able to write about sports and start my career writing about Duke football. I hope everyone is excited and ready for the college football season, I know I am.
