Miami football is coming up on its last four games of the regular season and while it may seem as if the season is slowing down, things are just about picking up here in college football. The Hurricanes travel up the road to face Virginia Tech this week and come in at No. 9 in the rankings. How far will they go from No. 9? Well only time as well as positive scoreboards in Miami’s favor will tell, but let’s highlight a position group that can play a key role in just how far this team makes it this season - the wide receiver group.
The stats
This group features a mix between some seasoned veterans, a few rookies and some vets that are now getting their turn. The group combined has eight touchdowns and 1,172 yards. Going into Game 9 last year, the receiver group combined for 1,447 receiving yards and seven touchdowns but was heavily reliant on wide receiver K.J Osborn for touchdowns. The veterans had no problem getting their hands on the ball last year but this year it feels like everything is brand new for the group.
Harley taking off
Although this group has gotten off to a bit of a rocky start this season, the one guy fans have been waiting to see spread his wings in this offense is senior wide receiver Mike Harley. I’ve had my eye on this talented young man since his high school days at St. Thomas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Flipping his commitment from West Virginia to Miami football was a shocker to some, and all eyes have been on the shifty receiver ever since. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound receiver had a total of 816 receiving yards and three touchdowns in his first three seasons for the Hurricanes and looks for this year to really be one to put his name out there.
