Nebraska football players added for Big Ten Tournament

Scott Frost’s impact on Nebraska football is non-existent so far, but his strong suit could be his ability to develop basketball players. depending on what happens this weekend in the Big Ten Tournament. After suspending guards Dachon Burke and Cam Mack for the conference tourney, head coach Fred Hoiberg announced the addition of quarterback Noah Vedral and offensive lineman Brant Banks to the basketball team.

Both played high school hoops, and Vedral made Third Team All-Nebraska leading the team to a state championship.

Nebraska is the #14 seed in a 14-team Big Ten Tournament with a pretty good chance of getting blown out on Wednesday against Indiana as 12.5-point underdogs. If that’s the case, we can only hope both Nebraska football players get some playing time, especially Banks. We need more 300-pound offensive linemen playing college hoops.

If I’m Nebraska, I might just give them both the start against the Hoosiers. Whatever they do couldn’t be much worse than what the Cornhuskers did in the regular season, finishing 2-18. They shot 8 of 30 from the free throw line in a late-season loss to Northwestern in the battle for last place in the Big Ten.

This is a fun story, but I just hope the basketball team returns the favor this fall. When Adrian Martinez struggles at quarterback for Nebraska, maybe a member of the basketball team can join the squad to take a few snaps.
