This past Saturday, Oklahoma football headed down to Fort Worth in hopes of proving to the college football world it is not a letdown team this year. With both the Sooners and the TCU Horned Frogs having Texas as their only conference win, it was a toss up going into the weekend.
However, stepping onto the field this weekend we saw a much more energized and excited Sooner football squad than we have since the season opener. Coming off of a win and into the bye week, Oklahoma football seemed to capitalize on a lot of the major issues it continued to face throughout the season.
We also can’t go a Sooner football game without talking about true freshman Marvin Mims. Mims in such a short amount of time has filled a major role for the Oklahoma offense and continued to do so this weekend with a 50-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter, followed by a 61-yard touchdown reception in the third.
Mims is already starting to look like a young marquise brown and perhaps even better considering how he is shaping up as a true freshman already.
Of course, we can’t talk about Mims stellar touchdown receptions without talking about the man behind the ball, Spencer Rattler. It seems that we are finally starting to once again see the same confidence we saw from the rookie QB back in Week 1. Rattler is currently among the top in the nation in touchdown passes, however, he is also among those leading with the most interceptions. But, for the first time in four games, Rattler played an error-free game.
On top of the offense looking far more clean in weeks past, we also saw a much more apt up defense than we usually are used to. Granted, TCU’s offensive line has been affected by COVID-19, but that does not discredit the fact the Oklahoma defense’s execution has improved quite a bit in just the past two weeks.
Heading into next week the Sooners are looking to go down to Lubbock and take on Texas Tech for a spooky Halloween matchup.
