Raesjon Davis recruiting: Decision day for 4-star linebacker

Update: Raesjon Davis announced on Wednesday he will be playing college football at USC.

A significant number of college football recruits for the class of 2021 signed their national letters of intent in the Early Signing Period in December, but there are plenty of talented prospects announcing their decision on National Signing Day including linebacker Raesjon Davis. Players in the 2021 class can sign on National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 3 and can do so anytime before the Aug. 1 deadline.

Let’s get to know a little more about Davis and where he might end up. He is expected to announce his decision on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. ET, which can be seen live on CBS Sports HQ.

He is ranked 48th nationally in the composite and is the fourth-highest ranked outside linebacker and No. 3 prospect from the state of California. He stands at 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds.

Davis was previously committed to LSU for nearly a full year as he announced his commitment to Ed Orgeron’s program on New Year’s Day in 2020 before decommitting shortly after the Early Signing Period in December.

Davis’ full FBS scholarship offer list according to 247Sports includes Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, Baylor, Colorado, Florida State, Kansas, LSU, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Oregon State, Texas, UCLA, Utah, Vanderbilt and Texas A&M and USC.

Top schools

Davis narrowed down his list of potential schools to five on Jan. 17 with a Twitter post that featured a top five consisting of LSU, USC, Ohio State, Oregon and Vanderbilt.

Where’s he headed?

The recruiting for the USC Trojans appears to be back on the right track, as they are the favorites to land Raesjon Davis according to 247Sports and Rivals. USC has landed incredibly talented prospects on the defensive side of the ball including defensive end Korey Foreman, the No. 1 ranked recruit in the country. Adding Davis would make this class even better.

USC currently ranks No. 8 in the country in the class of 2021 according to the 247Sports Composite Team rankings, which is second only to Oregon in the Pac-12. Clay Helton has the Trojans back to their usual recruiting performance after a bizarre 2020 class that ranked No. 64 in all of college football.
