Southern tournament gambling preview

Deceptive Speed will break down every single conference tournament from a gambling perspective the day each tourney starts. You’ve lost quite a bit of money this month in the past whether it’s food, drinks, gambling or bracket pools. The goal for 2020 is to make you some money in March for the first time in your entire life.

Ladies and gentlemen, we’re up to day four of conference tourney season. Only one starts on Friday. It’s called the Southern Conference. Let’s get after it.

The Bracket

The Bracketology

Deceptive Speed Bracketology currently has East Tennessee State listed as an 11 seed getting the automatic bid. It’s possible the Buccaneers make the NCAA Tournament with a loss in the conference tournament, but I’d advise against it.

The Odds

East Tennessee State +125
Furman +325
UNC Greensboro +425
Western Carolina +1300
Chattanooga +1800
Wofford/Mercer +2400
VMI/Samford/The Citadel +7000

The Suck

If you like VMI, Samford or The Citadel to make some wild things happen in March, I double dog dare you to put $10 on them. You’d make $700.

The Bet

I typically stay away from the top seed but sure I’ll take East Tennessee State, why not? The Buccaneers are plus value so you can actually make some money on them. They’re definitely the best team in the conference, and they’re not a lock to make the NCAA Tournament, so the motivation is there. Unlike every bubble team in the country, I’m all in on East Tennessee State.
