The Heisman trophy is given out the outstanding player in NCAA football every year. This player is one that shows how valuable he is and why he is special. With that, here are the top five candidates for the Heisman Trophy this week.
Alabama running back Najee Harris
Najee Harris is a contender for the Heisman because of the performance he has delivered. He plays for the No. 1 team in the nation and has helped Alabama get to where it is. Harris currently has 1,038 yards rushing on 169 rush attempts and 20 rushing touchdowns.
His stats alone prove just how good he is at the running back position. This is why he deserves to be mentioned at a Heisman contender.
Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields
Justin Fields is a contender for the Heisman because of his excellence at the quarterback position. Ohio State has only played five games this season. However, Fields has shown how good he is in those games.
Fields currently has 1,407 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and only three interceptions. Fields has a quarterback rating of 94.9, which is the second highest in the NCAA.
Fields has shown how effective he is at the quarterback position, and it shows.
Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book
Ian Book is a contender for a Heisman because of how consistent he has been at the quarterback position. He has led Notre Dame to a 10-0 record this season. It’s surprising the Irish are not No. 1. This season Book has thrown for 2,382 yards, has 15 touchdowns and only two interceptions.
Book’s QBR is not as high as Fields, but Notre Dame has played more games than Ohio State.
Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence
Trevor Lawrence is contender for the Heisman because of how great he has performed this season. Lawrence has shown how good he is at the quarterback position. He is also a big reason why Clemson is 9-1 this season.
Lawrence has thrown for 2,431 yards, has 20 touchdowns and three interceptions. He has shown how valuable he is on his team and is shows. Even though Clemson had lost one game this season, that game Lawrence did not play as he came down with COVID.
Lawrence has shown how tough he is as a player. He also has shown how valuable he is on his team. Lawrence will be top draft pick when he graduates and goes to the NFL. Any team he goes to will be lucky to have him.
Alabama quarterback Mac Jones
Mac Jones is the No. 1 contender for the Heisman Trophy because of his greatness at the quarterback position. Jones’ stats alone prove just how good he is and why he deserves the Heisman.
Jones has thrown for 3,113 yards, had 27 touchdowns and only three interceptions. Jones also has a QBR of 96.3, which is the best of any quarterback. His stats are the highest of any quarterback in the NCAA.
Alabama is the No. 1 team in the nation because of Jones. His ability to throw the football is unmatched by any other in NCAA. That is why he is well deserving of the Heisman.
