Goodman spent his true freshman season on the Appalachian State roster but never saw the field. He was rated as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports and ESPN and 2 stars on Rivals. Goodman is a play-making, dual-threat quarterback and lined up at wide receiver at times during high school. He tore his ACL in the final game of his 2019 high school season.
According to his recruiting profile on 247Sports and On3, Goodman received scholarship offers from three other FBS schools outside of Appalachian State including the Army Black Knights, Navy Midshipmen and Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.
The Mountaineers were led by former Clemson Tigers and Duke Blue Devils quarterback Chase Brice, who started all 14 games for Appalachian State in 2021. Backup Jacob Huesman was the only other quarterback on the roster to throw a pass last season in limited work.
Brice set a new Mountaineers’ single-season record with 3,337 passing yards and is the guy for Appalachian State with one more year of eligibility heading into 2022. The only other quarterbacks on the Appalachian State roster are DC Tabscott, who redshirted last season, and Ryan Burger is enrolled as part of the class of 2022.
Huesman is out of eligibility, and Navy Shuler entered the transfer portal in December to play for the Tennessee Volunteers.
Appalachian State finished 10-4 in Shawn Clark’s second season in charge of the program, but the Mountaineers fell short in the Sun Belt Championship and Boca Raton Bowl.
Andre Goodman attended Greenville Senior High School in Greenville, South Carolina.
