Bo Edmundson: 3-star QB commits to Michigan State

The Michigan State Spartans received a commitment from 3-star quarterback Bo Edmundson on Monday night when he made the announcement through his Twitter account.

Edmundson is the first quarterback prospect early in Michigan State’s 2023 recruiting class and had plenty of options before making his verbal commitment.

According to 247Sports, Edmundson received scholarship offers from 14 FBS programs including the Spartans, Colorado Buffaloes, Houston Cougars, Kansas Jayhawks, Kentucky Wildcats, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Penn State Nittany Lions, Pittsburgh Panthers, Purdue Boilermakers, SMU Mustangs, Tulsa Golden Hurricane, Utah Utes, UTSA Roadrunners and West Virginia Mountaineers.

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Michigan State will return last year’s starting quarterback Payton Thorne. He started every game in 2021 and completed 60.4% of his passes for for 3,232 with 27 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The other returning scholarship QBs on the roster are Noah Kim and Hamp Fay.

The Spartans signed Katin Houser to their 2022 recruiting class, and he is rated as a 4-star prospect by all four major recruiting sites.

After just two seasons in East Lansing, Michigan State has to be thrilled with what it has received from Mel Tucker, and that led to a 10-year, $95 million contract extension. The Spartans finished 11-2 last season including 7-2 in Big Ten play, capped off by a Peach Bowl win over the Pittsburgh.
