JT Daniels: Former Georgia, USC QB visiting Oregon State, others in the mix

JT Daniels is the biggest name among the available quarterbacks in the transfer portal, and he is visiting the Oregon State Beavers on Thursday according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. The former Georgia Bulldogs QB is taking his time with this decision and is not expected to pick his next school until the end of spring practice.

Thamel reported the Missouri Tigers and West Virginia Mountaineers are also in the mix trying to land Daniels. Missouri was rumored to be the landing spot for former Arizona State Sun Devils quarterback Jayden Daniels, who ultimately decided on the LSU Tigers.

Daniels started all 14 games for the USC Trojans as a true freshman in 2018, and he has struggled to remain healthy every season since then.

In 2020, Daniels recovered from an injury and took over the starting quarterback spot in his first season with the Bulldogs and played well, leading them to four straight wins to finish the season. He was in and out of the lineup the first few weeks of last season before Stetson Bennett eventually took control as Georgia won the national title.

In parts of four college football seasons, Daniel completed 389 of 610 (63.8%) of passes for 4,840 yards with 32 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.

Quick slant

This would be a fantastic get for an Oregon State team that’s coming off its first bowl appearance in eight years. Head coach Jonathan Smith is heading into Year 5, and he has completely turned things around at his alma mater after Gary Andersen left him with a mess. Daniels is in no rush to make a decision, and there is a market for an experienced quarterback as coaching staffs start to realize they need an upgrade from what they’re seeing during spring practice.
