The James Madison Dukes added a commitment from walk-on quarterback Xavier Davis, who made the announcement through his Twitter account on Tuesday night, the day before National Signing Day.

Davis does not appear to have a profile on three of the four major recruiting sites, but he is listed as a 2-star prospect on Rivals. Davis joins Alonza Barnett as quarterbacks in James Madison’s class of 2022. The Dukes also landed a pair of quarterbacks through the transfer portal with former Colorado State Rams quarterback Todd Centeio and walk-on QB Chase Hart from William & Mary.
The Dukes will need to find a new quarterback to replace Cole Johnson, who started all 14 games at quarterback and is moving on after a fantastic season in his sixth year of college football. Billy Atkins operated as the backup QB last season and is set to return, and the only other quarterback to throw a pass in 2021 was Patrick Bentley, who is not listed on the 2022 roster on the team’s official website.
James Madison finished 12-2 overall last season but fell short against North Dakota State in the FCS semifinals. The Dukes will join the FBS ranks for the first time this fall as a member of the Sun Belt.
Xavier Davis attends Green Run High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
