Garcia is rated as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports and was assigned 2 stars by Rivals. In addition to San Jose State, he had reported offers from the Army Black Knights, Navy Midshipmen and Air Force Falcons. He shared news of the Spartans’ scholarship offer on December 14th.
While Garcia is the only high school quarterback recruit in San Jose State’s 2022 class, the Spartans made a big addition through the transfer portal, landing Hawaii Rainbow Warriors starting quarterback Chevan Cordeiro.
Cordeiro should be the favorite to start in Week 1 as San Jose State attempts to replace Nick Starkel, who played in just seven games in 2021 due to an injury. Nick Nash will be the biggest competitor to Cordeiro and will likely see the field in some capacity even if he’s the backup as he played in 11 games last season.
Walker Eget was brought in for the class of 2021 and was rated as high as 3 stars by the major recruiting sites.
San Jose State is coming off a 5-7 record including 3-5 in the Mountain West and missed a bowl game, following a year in which they ran through the regular season schedule unbeaten at 7-0 in a pandemic-impacted 2020 season. Brent Brennan is heading into his sixth season as the Spartans head coach.
Anthony Garcia attends Capital Christian High School in Sacramento, California.
