Shorb does not have a star rating on any of the four major recruiting sites and received his first FBS scholarship offer from UTSA a few days before committing to the program. Shorb is the Roadrunners’ first QB commit early in the 2023 recruiting cycle, and the Roadrunners signed a pair of 2022 quarterbacks Brandon Tennison and Diego Tello - both of which are rated as high as 3 stars.
Frank Harris put up fantastic numbers as UTSA’s starting quarterback last season - both as a runner and a passer. He is expected to be back to run the show for the Roadrunners in 2022. UTSA lost Lowell Narcisse (Nicholls State) to the transfer portal after the season.
UTSA was one of the surprise teams of 2021. The Roadrunners cracked the College Football Playoff rankings and started the season with an 11-0 record. They won the Conference USA Championship and finished 12-2 overall but closed out the year with a loss in the Frisco Bowl.
UTSA finished with its best record in program history in less than 10 years of being a member of the FBS, and head coach Jeff Traylor was rewarded during the regular season with a contract extension that runs through 2031.
The Roadrunners promoted assistant coaches Will Stein and Matt Mattox to be co-offensive coordinators, and Stein will work with the quarterbacks. They will replace Barry Lunney Jr., who left to be the OC for the Illinois Fighting Illini.
Mason Shorb attends Rouse High School in Leander, Texas.
